Description

This vessel is created by applying coloured glass powders onto a kiln safe, blanket-like material. It is then fused in the kiln, a process taking around 24 hours which melts the glass powders together.

To transform the fused glass into a three-dimensional form, the glass is fired in the kiln again, a process called slumping. The glass is suspended in the air resting on a hollow clay ring where gravity works with the heat of the kiln to pull the glass through the centre of the clay ring, creating the vessel form. The kiln is then vented to stop the heating and shape-forming process. The final firing requires constant monitoring to ensure the desired form is achieved.

After the final kiln firing, the piece is cold-worked to give a luxurious, tactile finish.
